safety
The personal safety and health of
each employee is of primary importance. Prevention of occupationally-induced
injuries and illnesses is of such consequence that it is given precedence
over operating productivity. To the greatest degree possible, management
will provide all mechanical and physical protection required for personal
safety and health on all of our engineered systems.
The foundation of our safety program consists of three fundamentals,
training, incentives, and discipline.
Training being the most important, all of our superintendents are:
• OSHA 30-hour trained
• Competent person-fall protection
• Competent person-excavations
• Competent person-scaffolding
• First Aid-CPR certified
• Long-time employees promoted from within
Through the safety training given on a daily basis to each employee and the
more specific training given to our lead men and superintendents we know we
can maintain a jobsite driven by safety excellence.
Incentives include everyone from our hourly workers to top management.
Everyone is compensated for going that extra mile, which puts us an extra
mile ahead of our competition.
Discipline is equally important to us, we do not tolerate employees who fail
to comply to our safety regulations. We require everyone to be trained properly. Before they leave the ground, they know the proper method of fall protection
and will use it 100% of the time. We do not take chances with our employees’
lives or our clients reputation.
Are we as good as we say we are? Despite the dangerous nature of our
business, our Experience Modification Rate is a remarkable 0.78, which is
far below the 1.00 baseline for the industry. Our lost time and recordable
rates are also well below the national average. Our numbers say that when it
comes to safety, Southern Pan Services is a proactive company that is
concerned with the safety and health needs of not only our employees but our
clients as well.
It is very important to Southern Pan Services that when we have an on the
job injury that we maintain a good relationship and a line of communication with the
injured employee and the treating physicians. This is why we have a full
time person in the Risk Management department that tracks the recovery
progress of every injured employee. We also maintain a proactive light duty
program that allows the employee to work according to the restrictions that
have been given by the physician until the employee is able to return to
full duty work.
